Guide to Thailand*

Thailand is located in south east Asia and is one of the most popular countries for holidays in the world. Around 20 million people visit the country each year. Tourist are drawn by the beauty of the country and the friendliness of its people. One of the main attractions of the country are the white sand beaches in the south and the many scenic off-shore islands. The north of the country is mountainous and is home to hill tribes and elephants in areas of undeveloped forest.

Thailand is bordered to the north by Burma and Laos, to the east by Laos and Cambodia, to the south by the Gulf of Thailand and Malaysia, and to the west by the Andaman Sea and the southern extremity of Burma. Its maritime boundaries include Vietnam in the Gulf of Thailand to the southeast, and Indonesia and India in the Andaman Sea to the southwest. The climate in the country is tropical and there is a monsoon season which last from mid May to September there are also lighter rains from the north east from November to March.
