East Sussex Seaside
Resorts
East Sussex is a coastal county in southern England, it
borders the English Channel to the south, West Sussex to the west and Kent to
the east. The coast is around 50 miles from central London and is popular with
tourists and day trippers because of this proximity.
Around 750,000 people live in the county most of them in towns
along the coastal area. The county town is Lewes which lies around 5 miles
from the coast; much of the inland area of the county is rural in nature. East
Sussex has two main seaside resorts; Eastbourne and Hastings, - Brighton was a
part of the county until 1997 when it became a self governing authority. There
are two smaller seaside towns in the county - these are Newhaven which is a port
with ferry links to Dieppe in France and Bexhill which is a small resort.
