Cornwall Coast

Cornwall Coast and Seaside Resorts

Cornwall in the far south west of the UK has the longest coastline on any country - standing at around 430 miles (697 kms). Of this total some 147 miles (235kms) are designated Heritage Coast. These statistics give an idea why Cornwall is the most popular destination for seaside holidays in the UK. The coastline of the country offers the visitor a huge range of choice - from small fishing villages on the south coast to major resorts such as Newquay on the north coast to tiny coves that are scattered throughout the county.

Cornwall is relatively underdeveloped with a population of around 513,000 and has little in the way of industry, which means that the environment is mostly rural or coastal with few large settlements, which all goes to add to the scenic value and peaceful atmosphere that attracts thousands of visitors each year. The only city in Cornwall is Truro and that has a small population of only 21,000 but it does have a famous cathedral that was completed in 1910. More village than city Truro is a pleasant place to visit with small twisting streets and charming views along the River Truro.
