| Coleraine Coleraine is a small market town situated on the banks of the River Bann and some two miles from the sea. There are excellent beaches on both sides of the estuary and along the coast. The area is also a haven for wildlife.
Coleraine is an outstandingly beautiful area featuring some of the most spectacular countryside in Northern Ireland. It encompasses the resorts of Portrush, Portstewart, Portballintrae, Downhill and Castlerock, and the busy shopping town of Coleraine. This area is an ideal holiday base for all the family, there's simply so much to see and do. There are plenty of visitor attractions in the area as well as several golf courses and watersports facilities. Portrush offers theme parks and amusements as well as a great beach. Portstewart has a two mile long promenade and there are fine cliff walks. Castlerock is a quiet resort but ideal for strolling, swimming and sunbathing.
Dunluce Castle is one of the most recognised landmarks on the Causeway coastline. Dating back to the 16th Century, the castle is a romantic ruin, perched on a dramatic cliff top. Legend has it that the clan Mac Donnell from Antrim lived there and, while entertaining one night, the kitchen fell into the sea taking most of the servants with it. Two ghosts are said to haunt the ruins to this day. Mountsandel Fort to the west of the town is the location of Irelands oldest known settlement - dating from around 7000BC
