Devon Coast and Seaside Resorts Devon is the 4th largest county in the UK and has a population of around 1.1m. Devon has two major cities, these are Exeter - the administrative capital of the county and Plymouth which is a Unitary Authority. Most of the population is located in the southern half of the county, the northern half being more rural and less developed than the south. The least populated area lies in the middle of the county where the upland area of Dartmoor National Park is located. Devon is unusual within the UK in that it has two distinct and separate coasts to the south and to the north of the county. The southern area is more developed and has more towns inland and on the coast. Whereas the north of the county has a few medium sized coastal towns and many small rural villages. The south is always busy and can get congested in the summer months. The north is quieter and more relaxing but still busy at peak season. Below are links to the main Devon coastal resorts - Plymouth has been included in Devon even though it is a Unitary authority.
